Makeup Expires?

Just like any food product, there is an expiration date. Makeup can become risky to use after a certain amount of weeks or months. 

If you look at your makeup products, you’ll find a small drawing of a container with a number and an “M” next to it. This means that the product you’ve purchased is good for x-amount of months after opening. 

Liquid foundations last between 6 months to 12 months. To keep it clean and sanitary, avoid touching the neck of the bottle as well as wiping it clean after every use. If you begin to notice that your foundation becomes watery and seemingly separating into two liquid 

Lipsticks and lip products can last up to a year. Lipsticks are much easier to maintain in clean for as long as you can. With liquid lipsticks, every time you place the applicator it creates bubbles leading to the liquid itself to change texture. If any dirt manages to get inside, it’ll be difficult to clean especially impossible to clean a liquid. 

For lip balms, Rosebud Perfume Co.’s Smith’s Minted Rose Lip Balm Tin, lasts up to 30 months after opening. It gives you time to use the product completely but it can be hard to maintain clean. To keep it in a clean state, washing your hands and the tin container helps to keep out any bacteria and dirt. 

Mascara’s shelf life is three months. A very short amount of time to use all the product but as soon as you start to notice a funny smell or coming out as clumps, it’s better to toss it to the garbage as soon as possible. 

Just like mascara, liquid eyeliner lasts for about three months. This is also difficult to clean because of the container it is in. Both can become dangerous if they are used after its expiration dates, it can cause eye infections and irritation.

As for eyeshadows, these can last between six months to a year. You can quickly grab a makeup wipe and clean the eyeshadows, let them dry and use once again. Makeup needs to be kept clean to avoid any mishaps or irritation to the skin. Also helps to avoid any trips to the Emergency Room or dermatologist. Just keep an eye out for the small container drawing with the number and letter next to it.
