Zulma Thinks: Kat Von D

Kat Von D’s makeup brand is 100% vegan. No animal-testing or animal products in her formulas. Despite the good reputation of its formula, is it hit-or-miss?

Her Lock-It foundation is one of her popular products. High coverage with minimal amount of product needed. Despite its good reviews, for me personally, the foundation did not make the cut.

Unfortunately, despite me wanting to love the product, the foundation did not sit well with my oily skin. The foundation began to separate around my nose, chin and cheeks. By separating, this means that the product does not sit well with your skin and sort of reject it and look as if it’s just sitting on top of your skin.

After numerous attempts of blending with a stippling brush, beauty sponge and foundation brush, the foundation did not want to be anywhere near my skin. The product was intended to stay locked down onto your skin, staying matte and untransferable throughout the day did not do so with my skin.

The foundation did cover the other parts of my face like my forehead and jaw where it was less oily. The product is great, but just not for my skin type.

Her Shade + Light Face Contour palette is another favorite of many. With her six different shades, this is perfect to highlight and cast complimenting shadows onto the face. This product is easy to use, blendable and you’re able to build up the product without over doin it too much.

Although, the palette has various shades, the con is that it fits light to medium skin tones. The palette should also include shades for darker skin tones for those who also want to contour or highlight.

Kat Von D’s products will work on some but not on others. You can always ask for a sample unless you can’t get a sample of certain products. It’s worth to purchase but if it doesn’t work out for you, you can always go back to the store and ask for a refund.
